A very good source of information on health and alternative treatments to many of life’s health challenges, Zen Habits was voted as one of Time Magazine’s Best Blogs and for one good reason. Here’s a guy out in Guam, who goes about putting up a blog, creates an e-book and gives it all out for free. Why, then read fro yourself why. This is the epitome of blogging and the social net itself. where information is free and free to use. From living day by day in this recession, fixing your financial debts and many more Leo Babauta has it all. He takes a more positive look at life where quality of life is with the person living it and not the corporation who rules your life.
In his writings he says life and in fact blogging is more of a free form of expression though he wants to earn a living with the sales of his e-book, he allows people to make copies, give copies and whatever they want to do with it. This is the truth about the internet where nothing is safe. He takes on the rights of the people against the rights of the corporation emphasizing on the fact that so-called anti-piracy laws tend to focus more on the profit of the company behind the artist and not the artist himself. Everybody should live life to the fullest using technology to spread the good word on how to do so and this might be the best of the best in living.
Everything under the sun that is not taxing on nature, life and many other things can be found. What’s nice is to discover the so-called Browse side-bar where the author created (most skillfully at that) a selection or group of entries that exemplifies the blog and allows one to best appreciate the posts contained within. The Beginners Guide, takes you on a list of suggested readings to better understand the purpose and vision of the author making it one of the friendliest blogs I’ve ever seen. Sure there are thousands of them around and all everybody is concerned with is the latest stuff, he doesn’t care and focuses on his mission from step one. More power Mr. Leo Babauta and Thank You for your wonderful work, truly a breath of fresh air amongst the wayward web or internet as many call it.

To some people, calling a Moleskine a “notebook” is like calling Leonardo Da Vinci “some guy who can draw.” Moleskine has a long tradition of being used by artists and thinkers, and for its modern fans, its pages invite them to dip into a deep well of creativity and inspiration.

In this blog, ‘Skine Art’ you will see some of the works made by Moleskine fans all over the world. It’s pretty amazing. The posts, showcasing work submitted by different artists — both professionals and hobbyists — represent an amazing variety of styles and themes.

There are stunning examples of pen and ink illustrations, as well as watercolors and even mixed media and collage. Some also bravely include pages that contain excerpts of painfully honest journal entries.

In a way, this blog invites everyone to be a voyeur into the private thoughts and the creative visions of people around the world. Don’t go there with a critic’s eye, because this is no gallery of artists who claim they are the best. Rather, it is a sharing of a passion for paper and creative freedom.

At the very least, it will inspire even non-Moleskine fans to explore the possibilities of what happens when good paper, good ideas, and a freshly sharpened pencil can do. Of course, not everyone will be able to produce such masterpieces, especially on a first try.

But it’s not about being Leonardo Da Vinci (or “that guy who can draw”). It’s about being yourself — and recording some of that in a journal. Maybe it’ll be a Moleskine, or a regular notebook. In any case, the most extraordinary thing is discovering the artist in yourself.

There are a growing number of web comics online and a lot of these are quite notable for having exceptional art and wonderful writing. In fact, there are comics that can compete with what is being printed in the dailies.

One of the best online comics that I know of is Questionable Content. The web site is owned and operated by Jeph Jacques. The comic revolves around the life of Marten and his friends. It updates five days a week and each episode Jeph gives you a peek in to the life of these people. This is not trite comic, the script is very well written with really natural dialogue. I love the fact that Marten and his friends are into the same kind of music I’m into. Jeph even gives band recommendations on his notes, which accompany each new episode.

Be warned though, Questionable Content can be quite addictive.

It’s called pepakura.

Pepakura is a paper craft where one creates three dimensional figures from paper. It’s a bit like origami, but unlike the ancient Japanese art of paper art, the figures are not representational. Pepakura figures look like the real thing. If you create a bear, it’s a bear that you’ll see. Pepakura figures can be made by downloading sheets that already contain the figures that you need to cut out and then paste. It’s deceptively simple. But there’s a level of mastery needed to make really beautiful figures. The figures you can make can range from animals, to bikes to spaceships. I’m even making a Millennium Falcon pepakura figure.

The site is surprisingly written by a Spanish guy, Hector Garcia, who has been living in Japan for a couple of years which provides us with interesting insight into Japanese Culture. Now why would you want to know a bout Japan from the view of another national, well first, the Japanese have many cultural differences that cannot be easily explained till you see them first hand. The language barrier is also a very difficult one to bridge for their language may not have direct translational equivalents in the English language so bridging the gap is very difficult for outsiders. Japan is a secretive society in a sense that there may never be a true manifestation or way of interpreting Japanese culture that from the eyes of the Japanese. More and more Japanese are learning the Western way of life and to that extent we have seen their technological prowess in all aspects of daily life.
From the best cars, dancing robots, computers and more, they have some of the best minds in the world in a country that is an archipelago, broken into several islands that makes up the country we know as Japan. The diversity of Japanese culture is very unique for crossing from area to area may give you totally different flavors of their unique culture. As the author has found from living there, life isn’t always as simple as it is for like the importance of pride in their work. Employee’s are less important than the company as well as their extreme value for honor which cannot be matched elsewhere in the world. Japan is an utterly peaceful place even with the gangs and the infamous Yakuza who respect culture and values their honor. People are friendly once you get thought the difficult language barrier.
The Japanese are some of the politest people on earth and they always got he extra mile for their customers. May it be in the airport, or on the streets of their major cities, or even the small remote towns, people will always look to you with a smile. Kirainet.com is available in the author’s native tongue as well as in English which allows us to see his experiences and interpretation of the Japanese way of life, as it has in it’s long history.

Containing views from the perspective of the people themselves who have one thing they always tend to emphasize on, French pride. May it be with wine, life, buildings, politics, the news and just about anything, it has to be French. Paris is known also as the “City of Lights” and Love for the romantic mood that takes hold and captivates people as the sun sets and the majesty that is Paris is revealed in a totally new light, sparkling like a gem in the night sky.
Wonderful food, wine and a city full of history, all showcased in one site. Add to it the stiff love of the people for anything Parisian and you get a hell of a place to go for a taste of true Paris. The site primarily serves as a view of how they(the Parisians) view the world around them. French humor and pride combined with their sarcasm of things that have anything to do that is not French, you’ll be challenged by their way for expression in thought and mind. Some of the world’s greatest wine, art and artists are contained within the city along with splendid Roman architecture and a city that is so well thought of and designed everything seems to complement everything around it. Majestic by day, romantic and alluring by night, who wouldn’t fall for Paris.

One thing that absolutely fascinates me are various kinds of phenomena. The strange or otherwise unexplained occurrences and activities pique my interest to a great degree. That’s why web sites like Grand Illusions become an instant favorite.

Grand Illusions started way backin 1996. The impetus for the web site is to share the web site owners’ hobby and interest with science based phenomena. The site offers not just articles related to the subject but also carious fun activities and games as well as optical illusions.

As the site became more successful it also opened an online store that sells specialized games and gadgets that also seek to illustrate the said phenomena.

It’s quite fun to browse through the site and the store is even a great resource in getting that unique gift for people who also love science.

For some, coffee is a heavenly liquid that is part of an everyday ritual that represents a great many things to them. It is a liquid sipped with pleasant company, in solitude, in contemplation, or as the center of an epicurean adventure. Coffee has transcended its existence as a beverage and has become a cultural phenomenon. Everywhere you look, there are cafes and coffee shops and many people describe themselves as coffee connoisseurs.

Holidays should be a season of good cheer … unless you need to make a cross-country flight to visit friends and family, or take the family on the vacation (knowing, full well, that a child in a cramped plane is just asking for trouble).

The fact is, holiday travel is harrowing, expensive, and usually uncomfortable. And if you’ve got a horror story or would like to find out how to avoid one, visit Travel Rants. It’s got information on the airline industry, showing that some travel companies clearly have bigger problems than bad in-flight movies. Aside from that, it has tips on how to cope with the most common traveler’s woes. For example, there’s an article on facing the fear of flying, and another on dealing with jetlag. You can also find advice on how to efficiently pack a suitcase, plus an introduction to travel insurance. The site also has links to travel blogs and hotel blogs. There’s a good variety of topics, and the travel news is certainly useful for someone who spends a lot of time jet-setting, whether for business or for pleasure.

The site is not a consumer activist group. You can’t, for example, start your campaign against rude and obnoxious flight attendants here, or post your complaint about your luggage getting lost or getting stranded in some airport. But it does confront the “not-so-pleasant” side of travel that those airline commercials and travel agency brochures usually leave out. It is disconcerting how the commercials set you up for deep disappointment.
