One thing that absolutely fascinates me are various kinds of phenomena. The strange or otherwise unexplained occurrences and activities pique my interest to a great degree. That’s why web sites like Grand Illusions become an instant favorite.

Grand Illusions started way backin 1996. The impetus for the web site is to share the web site owners’ hobby and interest with science based phenomena. The site offers not just articles related to the subject but also carious fun activities and games as well as optical illusions.

As the site became more successful it also opened an online store that sells specialized games and gadgets that also seek to illustrate the said phenomena.

It’s quite fun to browse through the site and the store is even a great resource in getting that unique gift for people who also love science.

As an avowed foodie without the means to go around the world and taste the culinary offerings of different countries, reading about food is the next best thing to actually experiencing it.

Blogs maintained by actual chefs is a particular joy to read. These guys are in the midst of the culinary world and what they give is an insider’s perspective that you will not find anywhere else. It’s one of the reasons why I love reading Aidan Brooks’ blog.

Brooks’ blog, simply titled “Aidan Brooks: Trainee Chef” is a blog that talks about food from the perspective of a chef in training. Brooks is a 21-year-old chef from Hackney. He is now in Valencia, Spain working as the pastry chef for Restaurante Ferrero, the restaurant owned by Spain’s Chef of the Year 2009 Paco Morales.

Brooks writes about exotic ingredients, different cuisine and the dynamics of working inside a kitchen. It’s an interesting read although it could get a little too long- winded at times.

If you’re a foodie, Brooks’ blog is worth a visit.

One of the world’s largest news blogs based in the UK, it ranks high on rankings in Alexa. It boasts some of the newest and most up to date information on the web incorporating advertising, social networks and other useful information if you wish to know about the web. The site regularly features happenings in other much smaller social networks such as Twitter, MySpace, Google, YouTube, FaceBook and other new start-ups that are trying to make their mark on the web.
Social is the way to go and Mashable continues to grace the internet with balanced news and opinions for all. The community is comprised of people from all walks of life and membership is free. It was one of the first to recognize and capitalize on the merging of internet services making it one of the leading authorities on the social internet.
Need the latest news on the social networking world, then this is the place to go. Started in 2005 by Pete Cashmore, it continues to lead the internet wherever you may be whatever you may be interested in. They also added Mashable Jobs, a messaging board to cater to the growing interest and use of online job search engines that match people and jobs easy through the internet.
From media guides to how-to’s, they have it all, learn and use the social net with their useful notes and suggestions maximizing exposure to millions of users the world over. Partnership with some of the industry’s leading trend makers also allows them to maintain a certain edge over smaller convergence sites which grows and improves all the time as they continue to expand in size and relevance on the ever changing web.
