If there’s one web site that has truly captured the coolness and craziness of gaming culture it has to be Penny Arcade. The webcomic has become a cultural phenomenon that has successfully given life to the “travails” of the Gamer.
Written by Jerry Holkins and illustrated by Mike Krahulik, Penny Arcade is one of the few webcomics that have become so successful, its creators are able to make a living from their work.
The strips contain many in-jokes about gaming that are truly hilarious. If you don’t get the joke then the accompanying news post (which appears alongside new strips) will give you an idea of where the duo’s coming from. The strips generally involve its two protagonists, Tycho Brahe and John “Gabe” Gabriel, who play games and comment about them. I can’t begin to explain how spot-on their comic strips are. If you’re a gamer you’ll have fun reading about the stereotypes and the cool game-related jokes. Non gamers will have fun with the unique brand of humor that only Penny Arcade can deliver.
