“What is your favorite blog?” When asked that question, at first I had a hard time deciding what to answer. There are so many of them In fact, there is now more than 156 million blogs online. There are blogs to suit every interest: dating, politics, finances, parenting, worm growing, and just about any other topic of which you can think. You name it, there’s a blog for it. Even I have a blog. Picking just one blog as my favorite (if I don’t count my own), is not easy. As it turns out, though, my choice of top blog is not an unusual one. In fact, I chose the most popular blog online, the Huffington Post.
A Little Huffington Post Background
Arianna Huffington, Kenneth Lerer, and Jonah Peretti founded the Huffington Post in 2005. It specializes in posting opinion pieces, analysis, and breaking news and in just a few short years erupted into a wildly popular website. In February 2011 AOL bought the Huffington Post for $315 million and appointed Arianna Huffington president and editor-in chief.
Using paid and unpaid bloggers, this website offers a collection of blogs and news in a broad range of topics. It covers everything from life and style to theology and politics, and plenty of stuff in between. Over 9,000 bloggers contribute to the site, making it a magnet for blog readers of all types.
Why I Like It
The reason The Huffington Post appeals to me is that it offers such variety. No matter what I’m in the mood to read about, there’s something interesting at the Huffington Post. If I’m feeling domestic and want to think about cooking or decorating, it’s available. If I’m in a more serious mood and want info about current politics or financial news or recruitment services and their impact on the unemployment rate, it’s there. Need a good laugh? You’ll find it in the humorous blogs at Huffington.
Visiting The Huffington Post is just easier than cruising to a multitude of sites for each topic I’m interested in. To top it off, I can find breaking news there and the blog writers’ opinions often coincide with my rather liberally tinged frame of mind.
Criticisms of The Huffington Post
Some have criticized the Huffington Post for being too liberal, for using unpaid bloggers, and other supposed flaws. Some say Arianna Huffington is a self-centered, egotistical control freak who sold out to AOL for personal gain and self-promotion. Just like the writers for the Huffington Post, those people are allowed to state their opinions.
Their opinions, however, have not changed my opinion nor apparently that of millions of other people, because of all the blogs online, the Huffington Post remains the frontrunner.
